Spout for Above-Deck Gas Tanks?

I can't find a better section to post this question in so here goes. I put in a permanent 19 gal tank and now have two 6 gal adove deck tanks sitting around (bought last fall so I'd like to use them).

Does anyone make a spout that will screw on to the larger size opening on these tanks? I'd like to use them to fill up the boat but it's a PITA without a spout.

I think there are spouts available. However, this will cause you to lift and hold a full 6 gal tank. I prefer to use one of those "shake-shake" siphon hoses. The are self starting and empty a 6 gal tank in a couple of minutes, due to having a 1/2" hose.

That's actually a great idea.

I saw a lawnmower gas can with a spout and hose and an on/off lever. The sizes just don't match up. Where I put the fill neck there is a platform right next to it I could sit the tank on while it drains. I set it up for that reason but can't find a spout to fit...anywhere.

Why use a spout. Bay another fuel line and bulb assembly. Attach it to the tank and siphon the fuel from the portable to the permanent tank. You can speed up the flow if the quick connect on the portable is removable. Replace it with a standard hose barb and permanently attach the hose. Provides more flow and will also empty the tank in a few minutes.

That's another good idea. The largest bulb I've seen connects to 3/8" ID hose, so that probably translates to at most a 1/4" inlet on the bulb. At that size, it's probably about 1 1/2 gal per minute. A spout would be way faster, but I guess if I use the fuel line there is zero chance to spill anything.

how about sell the two 6 gallon tanks on c/l and buy another 19 gallon... then install a fuel selector valve...... sometimes it's better in the long run to spend a couple bucks and then you don't have to mess around with trying to transfer fuel on the water.

Yeah, that's the one. It'll transfer a little over a gallon a minute. There are probably a few different brand names. I bought my "super syphon" through Amazon 3 years asgo. Works as advertised. Handy little gadget.

I guess I wasn't clear about the intended use. I want to use these tanks to get gas at the gas station a block from the slip and fill the boat at the dock. Selling them was my first thought, but then I'm still going to end up with two tanks (probably only 5 gallons).

ahhhhhh I SEE....

well I'd still ditch em.... I have a 100 gal tank in my truck with a transfer pump and a long hose.... obviously 2/3 5 gallon cans would be more practical for you but if you feel a touch more spendy then there's the gas caddy...

not to say that the siphon won't work... just my take on it....

it is a pain to pour gas from the 6 gallon boat tank due to its shape. BTDT. Sell the tanks; get 5 gallon jerry cans. If not, siphon with the existing bulb.

Now that I really think about it, a dollar or so per gallon isn't that bad to not have to deal with any of this and just buy gas at a marina. It's only a 16' with a 70 hp and the most I've ever used in a day is 10-12 gallons.

Lots of good ideas in this thread.

But if anyone needs a pourable tank/can, these are the best, and have a removable spout/funnel.

They run anywhere from $32 to $57, depending on where you buy them.

If you're gonna transfer fuel on the boat buy a syphon. You "spout and funnel" guys need to lose your balance once on a rocking boat while hefting 40 lbs. of gas.
