Any thoughts on just having the stringers sprayed with fiberglass?
Would it be strong enough?
Anyone ever tried it?
Thanks.

You can do it, and I'd be surprised if some manufacturer hadn't done it in production, just making a line of sprayed glass fibers where a stringer should go.

It would be "strong enough" if you increased the layup thickness of the stringers until you had the strength needed. Heavy.

If you're just talking about spraying stringers in place to cover them, lots of manufacturers do that. It doesn't give a lot of strength nor give very good waterproofing, IE it's not a great idea.

Re: Spray on glass???

I think the biggest problem with a chopper gun would be voids at the bends. I think it would be one way to do it, but I think I'd be happier with layed up glass instead of chopped and shot glass...you know the strength will be there. Chopped glass just doesn't have linear strength that a biaxial weave has over the length of the stringer, meaning that high pressure on one spot is going to NOT be spread out over the length of the stringer-it will be localized and put much more stress on the glass in that area.
