Spraying Scotch Guard on rugs-Good idea?

Now that the beige rugs in the boat are nice and clean again, I was thinking of spraying them down with Scotch Guard to protect them from fishing activity.

Might be expensive though to buy like 5 cans worth since much of the spray may go into the air. Anyone know of a cheaper product or way to protect the rugs?

Also if I do use Scotch Guard will this product make the rugs slippery especially after the rugs get wet and make it where someone could slip and fall into the water?

Thx

The spray on coatings rarely do anything for more than a very short period of time, typically less than week when in use, and even then they don't do much.

Thx for that quick reply. Ya, I thought about that too. I use Scotch Guard on fabric stuff in the house like seat cushions etc. The stuff is great for protecting spills from staining.

I guess it's like you say though in harsh outside environment like a boat it's only going to last a week!
