Hi every one, I have an 1987 18.5 Alumicratf bowrider with 150 Johnson & 15 kicker next to it on transom. In process of replacing floor and noticed a cross wise stringer support partially cracked { thin alum.vertical piece that conforms to hull and attached to the cross stringer in an L shape} Thought this was due to rough water pounding , it would be about where the console walk thru is at. Then saw that the boat is totally supported on the rubber rollers on the 16 roller type trailer. One roller was at the area cracked. The trailer has a keel support centering roller attached to the frame in the same area that had no weight on it, I raised it to support some of the load at the keel , I am adding another keel roller towards stern for same reason . Other than the small crack that Im riveting a brace on does my support ideas sound accurate for this boat, trailer. Dave

Re: Spread out load of boat on trailer.

Well I think I ans. my question after pondering a while. Noticed another rig similar to mine with the one frame roller not even supporting boat at the keel. The engr. at Shorelandr told me that its only there for centering boat at the launch-retrieval. The rollers ,16 in my case, totally support the boat. Then he suggested since an 87 to check the rubber on the wobble rollers-----yep they are starting to crack & need to be replaced.. Saved some work and $$$. and more boat damage.

If you can drive that boat on the trailer, I would just put bunks on it. It might be worth getting a quote on sandblasting the frame too.

The sandblast is for sure in the future and I am thinking about bunks, I think it is the way to go on an alum hull, had an old timer in boat bus. for yrs. said never put alum.on rollers. He told me that yrs. ago when I worked at his shop.
