Hi to everyone - I was on this board when my 2001 9.9 power thrust kicker wes really driving me crazy - and the help here was great

Now, I have the engine running and have put on ly a few hours on it. Today, while the engine was running fine at full throggle - it over rev'ed (really fast) and theh prop disengaged and forward momentum stopped (kind of like a cavitation).

When I back down on the throttle it "catches" again and runs fine:

Question 1 , Is this definately a spun prop and do I need to replace it or can it be repaired.

Question 2, (kind of for Rodbolt and Willy B) - If you remember during the last round the service place I had it was really bad. They ran this engine for (I beleive they told me 3 hours) in their test tank at full on and with the regular prop and not a test wheel. Could this have resulted in the prop hub being damaged and causing the problem I am having now. It seem this is really premature failure for a prop that has never struck anything or been used more that about 200 hours?

All advice and reply will be appreciated.

Gary N

Re: spun out prop?

maybe maybe not. dry rot kills them as well. i have had a few spin just cause.
take it by a prop shopand see what they say. usually on the little motors a prop is cheaper than a rehub.

Re: spun out prop?

make a mark on the prop and hub. fire her up and try to duplicate the spun prop condition. check to see if the marks are still lined up.If not you got a spun prop.

Thnaks

I will check to be sure. I certainly hope that it isn't something related to the internal gears.

Gary N
