Spun Prop Hub?

I think I spun the prop hub, but I am not sure how to visually inspect it. It is a flo-torque II hub on a 2006 Alpha 1 gen 2. The engine is a 5.0 mpi. The boat suddenly reved up while the boat slowed down. I was able to limp back to the dock doing 9.3 mph at 2500 rpm's. That rpm would usually have me going 20-25 mph.

I never over heated, there was no rubber smell and I see no rubber dust/chunks in the bilge. The prop has no damage. The engine was purring like a kitten the whole time. All fluids are full.

I tried turning the prop by hand in both forward and reverse and it did not move. I pulled the flo-torque sleeve out and it looks ok. But, I don't really know what I am supposed to see (if anything) when looking at the hub.

Any ideas?

Scribe a small line across the face of the Prop,+ Hub,.....
Run It,.........
Then see if it still Lines Up......

I'd Think that there'd be Visible Damage with that Torq-Flo System,........
But,.... Maybe Not......

I'm going to take it out tomorrow and see if the marks I made are still aligned. I went ahead and bought a new hub sleeve just in case. I also changed my fuel/water filter just to make me feel better.

I had a boat load of people yesterday (including a baby and a toddler) and it wasn't a good time to be experimenting with the throttle or prop.

I'd be interested in the Outcome,........

The Hubs like that, that I've seen,........
Seems to Me, should Look Bad in your hand.............

I just can't think of Where it could Slip........

Re: Spun Prop Hub?

There was nothing wrong with the hub. I think Bond-o is right, if there is something wrong with a flo-torque hub it will be obvious. The hub is basically a hard piece of plastic so it can't just "slip." Something has to seriously twist or crack.

Anyway, I marked my hub and prop and took it for a spin after changing the water separator. Boat ran great. The hub never moved. Mistery solved.

I assumed that if the filter was getting bad that the boat would run rough or at least idle poorly, but it purred like a kitten without ever missing a beat. It even revved right up nicely. I don't get it....
