JL, You are right. I was thinking about that too. It must have just been an improprly installed distributor to begin with, off a tooth or two. It was back in the early 70's when this happened & my memory ain't what it used to be. I didn't correct the post cause I wasn't sure anybody noticed. Thanks for that. BinLurkin'.

No worries mate. I see some posts snuck in under the wire here. Must have posted before mine took? By 2 minutes it says. In any event, no issues here. I just made a major mistake in me post. You said something about the timing mark not lighting up right so I thought I would try to help. I was mistaken. I'm sorry, I had good intententions. Glad you solved your problem it was most interesting. Regards & apologies, BeenLurkin. <br /><br />"When the going gets tough, the tough go drinkin".

Re: Sputter - Pop - Fart - Go like Heck and Back

Hey CJ or anyone else that can help,

I am having the exact same issue as described in this thread with my 1998 Stingray 190lx with 4.3L mercruiser. FYI, Just had the carb rebuilt.

After the motor warms up, it will start sputtering, popping, and farting while losing power when cruising at 2500 rpm (give or take), but then it works itself through and the power returns. This happens over and over again.

I am unable able to open up diagram 2 figure 11 to see what you sprayed with silicone, can you illustrate exactly what needs to be sprayed. Also, what would be a good kind of silicone to use?

I want to start with this to see if this solves my problem, and then work back to possible timing issues, coil issues, coil wire issues, and/or dying fuel pump.

I just had the timing redone after I replaced head gaskets, valve cover gasket, intake manifold gasket, etc. so I wouldn't think that would be it, but I guess anything is possible.

Any advice that can be shared is much appreciated.

Thx,

MZ

Zollman,....??
Do you Really think that the posters of this Over 4 Year Old thread are going to give you any Answers,..??..??..??..??

Most of them aren't even regular posters,+ haven't been heard from in Years.....

At 23 posts,...
You should know by now that posting Your Own thread, about Your Own problems is How it's Done.....

Hey Bond-O,

Thanks for the prompt and courteous response.

I realize that this thread was over 4 years old, but I thought CJ was a regular on here... Also, I thought it would make sense to just post to this thread since it has the background of the entire issue (which is identical to mine) and everything wouldn't have to be re-hashed again. Furthermore, it shows that I was researching for my answer before just posting a redundant question/issue again...

In hindsight, I guess I could have posted a brand new thread and referenced this one (which I will do), but I was in hurry... My bad that I am not up to date on my posting ettiquite and not on here 24 hours a day to keep track of who has been around and who hasn't, but again we are just talking about one post to one thread aren't we??

I don't think I'm a chronic offender of posting "F-ups" to deserve the type of response that you have provided.

So I'll send the WTF!?!?!?, right back at you.
