Hi I have a 50 Johnson 03' with power trim/tilt on a 03' Aquasport. Works fine but on it's way down it is awfully loud. Sounds similar to "water hammer" in the pipes in the house. Anyone have any suggestions?, could it be low on hydraulic fluid? thanks

Re: Sqeaky Tilt/Trim

There are grease fittings that need to be lubed on the "tilt tube" and some of them are just noisy....... all the time.

Have you checked the fluid level in the T&T?

BTW I am moving this to Johnson/Evinrude repair section ;)

Re: Sqeaky Tilt/Trim

It is NOT uncommon that there is allot of dried up old grease surrounding the tilt tube so do not be shy ......if grease leaks out (there is no seal to destroy) keep pumping....... tilt the motor and do it again....... 2 or three times to help the fresh grease surround the tilt tube.

"worst" case scenario ........ you need to replace the tilt tube..... on some motors they seize up 100% and the motor will not tilt..... that's worst case.

Do as Bob VT says. When you check the t/t fluid unit must be in full up position. After you do this run it up and down a few times and maybe add some PB blaster to any squeaking joints.

It could be binding where the pin goes through at the top of the tilt ram, clunk clunk clunk, try running some oil into it, there's a 'nylon?' bush in there.
