Sqeeking sound from belt after impeller inspection

I noticed small leak coming out of the impeller enclosure so I opened it up inspected and put it back together. The leak stopped.

Now there is a loud sqeeking sound coming I believe from the belt or possibly something else in the front of engine.

- what could it be?
- any relation with the impeller work or pure coincidence?
- is it the serpentine belt? Anyway to test?
- if it's belt can I get an after market or does it have to be Volvo Penta?
- is it difficult to change the belt?

Thanks in advance.

I just opened the 4 housing bolts, visually inspected the impeller (didn't take it out), cleaned the gasket, put it back, put some marine lube on the shaft, and tighten the bolts as they seems to be loose previously.

The boat wasn't used for the last 4 years. Would tightening the bolts too much have cause the sound? The engine is definitely cooling a lot better now though.

I found a video I made prior to touching the impeller and the squeeking was already there looks like, so its not the impeller change causing the sound. It just seems louder now probably because it's dry now.

I would hope you have water running to the engine. How good id the battery? If it's weak the alternator is working hard and if the belt is loose it'll squeak.

- what could it be? The belt . . .
- any relation with the impeller work or pure coincidence? Assume that it is related
- is it the serpentine belt? Anyway to test? Look & listen . . . usually it is the belt, but something is causing it to squeal. You can use a short section of pipe/tubing held up to your ear to isolate the source of the noise.
- if it's belt can I get an after market or does it have to be Volvo Penta? Aftermarket is fine
- is it difficult to change the belt? No . . . about a 2 on a 10 scale.
See my answers above . . .

I am wondering if when you tightened the bolts, it is causing the impeller to bind. If you did not have water going to the raw water pump, then it is probably the impeller itself squealing inside the pump (very bad).

To clarify when its dry now I ment the belt, because of the leak it was kept wet because of the leak so it was less noticeable I think.

Now because the belt it dry it sounds louder.

Battery is brand new.

Makes sense but my temp of my boat is a lot better now even at high throttle once I fixed the leak.

The short pipe is a good idea, I will try that.

Spray water on the belt - if it quiets down, it is the belt. Clean pulleys and replace belt. Check tensioner - replace if weak. I am not sure what weak is...... so if replacing belt does not quiet it I would then try replacing tensioner.

Does any know then dimensions, like the length, width, rib count of the VP belt, part 3860092 (for GLP-E)

In my area they are crazy expensive.

There should be a number on the belt (somewhere), it is basically the length in inches or may be cm. Alternatively, you can bring the belt to the auto parts store and they can get you a match.
