I have a 1989 force 150 and the other day while on the water I heard a loud squeal and then it stopped a few seconds later. The motor ran fine and never missed a beat but when I got home and removed the cowling there are aluminum shavings but I can not find the source. Whats under the flywheel?

Stater and trigger under flywheel. Magnet or magnets are attached ip under and to the flywheel. How does the starter look?

Re: Squealling sound and Shavings!!

On a powerhead i picked up months and months ago i also seen shavings. The problem was a couple of the thin metal pieces surrounding the trigger magnets on the flywheel came loose from the others..were hanging a bit low and were rubbing on the crank seal cover/trigger holder/stator holder whatever its called. There is an indentation in it and I didnt reuse it. I did have to install the flywheel last week..I gently tapped the metal pieces back around the magnet with the claw of a hammer.

Ok pulled the flywheel. It was the stator screws. Thanks for all the great advice!
