I have a 21ft super sport. I want to put a kicker on, do I need a long shaft or an extra long shaft?

Thanks

Depends on where you mount it.???? Is the SS I/O or outboard?

Measure from the mounting location to the keel...a 20" longshaft should be fine in my opinion, but it does depend as mentioned.

If you are using a kicker bracket that's adjustable either one would probably work fine.

Got any photos of the boat?

It should fit but be sure . Make sure it will turn and clear the sides and other motor. I have on my 22 holiday both a 200 johnson and a merc. 9.9 4 stroke with a really neat rod between thm for steering. Not a EZ steer as they come apart and hinder the tilt for both, the new rod connects dirict to the motor steering arms and allows it to tilt without getting in the way of each other. the shaft length of both motors should be the same length

Can you tell from the picture if I need a long or an extra long shaft? Did you design your connecting rod yourself?

Re: SS 21 kicker motor

are you going to use a kicker bracket with height adjustment. like a garlick.
I have a long shaft and it works fine. short shafts are too short.
What size kicker are you going with?
Ihave a 15hp 2 stroke johnson on a 21foot and I get 5mph max speed with a 4 blade x 9 pitch prop.

I was going to mount it right on the transom . I can get an extra long shaft 10 hp with controls pretty cheap right now. Just want to be sure it will work.

Re: SS 21 kicker motor

As I mentioned I have a 9.9 4 stroke and the older Johnson 200 on my 22 holiday.. There was enough room for both on the transom. I had the kicker on a Garlic but it was so D.. far back coulden't but reach it. I also have a full width rear seat that I take out for fishing. Starcraft kind of went nuts with there splashwell size. 20 inch shaft should do the job. I purchased the connector bar from a Marina They are the Cats meow for connecting motors together. The bar never moves and clears both motors so they have free tilt ability.

Re: SS 21 kicker motor

I helped a friend remount his long shaft kicker from the starboard side to the port side.
We had lots of clearance issues.
Ended up raising the kicker and modifying the transom to make it fit and work properly.
In the end it might have been better for us to use one of these bolted to the transom.

This might be an option for you if the kicker you are looking at is such a good deal.
It could be bolted to the transom to lift it up a few inches and fix the clearance issues.

Nice boat Bralaw, any chance you could post a pic of the back of your boat and the splash pan area. We are in the process of converting an I/O to an outboard. Also what HP Merc. do you have and are you happy with it.

Thanks in Advance,

Dave

I will take a picture of it the next time I get it out. It has a 150hp mercury on it. Moves it pretty good. I get 45mph when I am by myself and about 40 mph when I have my family in the boat.
