SS prop Damage

Hit a rock in the lake Saturday, and whacked my Alpha One Gen 2 SS 4 blade. All 4 had some dings and nicks. 2 a bit worse than the others. I put my 3 blade Aluminum prop on, and the boat seemed to respond well. Nothing unusual, planed fine, at a bit higher RPM than the 4 blade and no sounds or noises indicating damage. Should I be looking for any other symptoms, or warning signals in performance or handling? Thanks for the input in advance

I think the most common problem would be related to the prop shaft, even a slight bend/twist could be a problem and tear up the shaft seals and let water in. I would be sensitive to any vibration and watch carefull for water in the outdrive oil. Maybe others have additional info and experiance but I think this would be my concern.

Might be time to change the oil in your leg, check the drain plug for metal chips, and make sure there is no moisture in it.

Jim

And if you can, use a dial indicator to check the propshaft for "run out". Or pay a professional to do it. Cause Vatter is right on the mark, the bent shaft would eventually ruin the seal, and let oil out/water in.
