I have been running a oem prop (17in) pitch on my 98 225EFI for many years and decided to try a SS to get
a bit better proformance. (save some gas) I bought a SS prop same pitch and size dropped her in the water today and took a ride to be very disappointed,(it sucked) No hole shot and rpms where to high! Should there be a direct 1 to 1 replacemnt with SS. seems like I have to go up in pitch to get it like the OEM steel.
Can any one recomend a SS prop that will beat out my OEM. Now what do I do with this shinny new $200 prop make a candle holder out of it!

See my response to your other post. When shopping props you need to establish a base line with your existing prop, engine height setup, and ensure the engine is performing properly. Make some wide open throttle runs with normal load and note wide open throttle RPM and speed. Make several runs. Average them and that will be the base line. If the WOT rpm is below the recommended maximum you need a prop that allows the engine to run at the upper end or slightly above the maximum. If it is already at that point you need to be careful with your stainless selection as there is an efficiency with stainless that can result in the problem you just encountered. You go to a bigger marine dealer and see what they say about your specific boat-engine combination. See if you can work a trial deal (a deposit may be necessary) whereby you try several props and then buy one that meets your needs. Sell the other one on e-bay. As for fuel savings with the new prop -- don't quit your day job as significant reductions in fuel consumption will likely not be noticeable.

the only way to save gas will be to lower your cruising RPM. what RPM did your 225 achieve with the oem prop?
