Re: St. Augustine in May/June?!?

Hey guys!!!

Sorry it's been so long. Spent the weekend on Jekyll Island with my family. Didn't bring the boat.:(

My wife is doing a review on Jekyll Island (on the Gerber Babies Blog). We were sent on an all expenses paid weekend!!! I'll post some pics some time in the next few days.

We will definitely be going back!!! Military, veterans, and public safety personnel can get a condo for 81.00 per night on the beach!!! They have a beautiful free public boat ramp. You pay a 5.00 parking fee for the whole island. It's good for 24hrs, to come and go from the island, or if you just stay on the island, it's good for the whole time you're there.

Fireman, I really want to do the Jax to Old town cruise with you. Don't know how it will play out at this point, but we ABSOLUTE(ly);) need to discuss schedules.

Sasto, We'll be sure to involve Samuel Adams in these discussions!!! I understand he's a friend of yours, and will be a welcome addition to our crew!!!

I spent childhood vacations at Jekyll, St. Simons, and Sea Island. The mate and I spent a few days there last June and the place hasn't changed much. It is truely a paradise. This......my friend.....is wonderful that you visited that part of GA.

Yup, veritas honus, Samuel Adams is a friend of mine. He was named after me....or...uh?.... something like that.

Jekyll Island is really nice; and we will be going back... with the boat!!! The boat ramp is really nice. The concrete seems to be the perfect pitch, and the texture just seems to grip the tires of the tow vehicle without compromise.

So far, though, I think my favorite place in Georgia is still Tybee Island. My wife and I would love to own just a little piece!!! Maybe in the not so distant future. Tasted my first muskadine on Tybee in 1994. I thought they were small plums!!! What an incredible suprise...:D

I'm glad Sam Adams was named after you, and not my 3 year old!!!:p

Now, don't wanna be accused of 'jacking this thread, so, SEE YA IN ST AUGUSTINE!!! How's that fer pullin' a rabbit out of a hat?

Getting ready continues!!! Trailered the boat to work last night. Got off work this morning and went straight to a great local tire place. Replaced all 5 tires on the trailer with radials for under 300.00, out the door!!! Kinda weird getting new tires for the boat...:p;)

Is it June yet???

Great, veritas honus! I am ready for St Augustine. Got my ducks-in-a-row. I have people lined up to take care of business. :) We are planning on traveling up north to some places I've always wanted to visit after the get-together.

See Ya Soon!

Sounds great!!! Glad you could get everything worked out. "Ducks in a row" are always a good thing. I love them hanging in neat rows, roasted beautifully in resteraunts in China Town!!!

What places have you always wanted to visit? Just be sure to throw in a St Augustine every now and then so people don't realize we're 'jacking the thread again...;)

Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine.

My lady and I spent several days at St. Augustine last year. We loved the place. It is one cool old town with a small town feel. We parked the SUV the whole time we were there. You can walk or take public transportation almost anywhere. The locals were very friendly to us. Your gonna to love it! ;)

Oldest city in Florida. It's been many years, but I've been there several times. Love it. I've been told it hasn't changed.

You're gonna love New England!!! Bob_VT lives in Vermont. You may want to send him a PM. He's a really good guy. He's also a Veteran. Who knows, could turn into another meet and greet. Funny how the world seems a little smaller when looking at it through iboats, huh?

Oldest city in Florida.

Oldest city in the entire United States!! It was founded in 1565. This was almost 45 years before Jamestown, Va was founded by John Smith.

It truly is a really neat place to visit. While you're there, take the tour of the fort (Castilla de San Marcos) which guards the inlet and we'll all go walk St. George St.

And then off for a beverage at the Mill Top Tavern...;)

Mill Top Tavern... I seem to remember you mentioning it before... Am I mistaken? Can it pass as a place for lunch/dinner/snack...? What I'm getting at... is it kid friendly?

Barring catastrophic illness/ serious traumatic injury/ irrepairable mechanical breakdown....I will be there. I was simply mentioning that you should make sure to see it. I have been thru it a dozen times, but have no problem going again. Amazing history in that fort.

Yes, it's kid friendly. Upstairs cheezy dive restaurant with open air seating and usually a grizzly sort of fellow on the guitar. As long as you're not expecting anything better than nachos or a club sandwich, you should get by OK. 4-star dining a block away (across from the marina) at the AIA Ale House. Giant copper bar, tables, music, and melt in your mouth food. Some of the best Jumbalya is served just down the street. Open air picnicing on the grounds of the fort. And an old English pub/restaurant which is the only place to grab breakfast on A Sunday morning. All places are kid friendly.

Alright, Fireman, gotta stop taking me so seriously.

Everything sounds great!!! How did it go?... This just gets better and better?... Yeah, that's it!!!

Are we there yet?... How many more miles?... I gotta go to the bathroom... No no no, wrong scenario.

We'll get there.:D

Re: St. Augustine in May/June?!?

I'm still in if I can pull it off.

I did a stupid thing and ran into a tree on the mountain bike trail at De leon springs so that kind of killed my big push to get the boat painted and back together. Oh the stupid things we do!!!

That and I just got back from a vacation to the mountains.

But it's top on my list and I'm definitely planning on joining you guys.

Funny side note one of my best friends dad owns St Augustine Sea Tow so if a favor is needed it's good to know. (Although Steve is actually in the Philippines on business his son in law is the Capt.)

Other good news- my brother says he found someone to build his next couple boats in Palm Beach, since he's in a wheel chair now he's real big on promoting handicapped boating/ fishing for all.

Looking forward to having a great time with you guys.

Hey, even if your boat isn't in the water by then (hurry up), you can still drive up and climb aboard any one of the others that will be there. I know I shouldn't speak for anyone else, but I'm sure no one would leave you standing on the dock...:)

Sure hope you are there, Craig.

On a side note, we built a 47' Garlington Sportfish for a guy who was wheelchair bound. Had a lift to get him onboard. The helm chair was hydraulic and lowered so he could captain and a hydraulic platform for entering the cabin. Guy named it "Hell On Wheels". He was from PB.

Re: St. Augustine in May/June?!?

Great to hear from you, again, Craig!!!

Sorry to hear about your mishap with the tree. I'll give you a little hint about trees, for future referrence: They're usually bigger than you, and always stand they're ground...;)

As Fireman said, please don't allow your boat to dictate whether or not you come. There will be a minimum of two boats there. Mine is only 20', but Fireman's is 37'. Nlain may or may not bring his. Sasto is not bringing any of his. It's going to be a terrific get together. Doesn't seem to have attracted a lot of participants, but the several who'll be there... We're gonna have a great time!!!:D
