Stacking batteries

This seems like a stupid question out of the gate.

Is there anything wrong with the idea of "stacking" 12v deep cycles vertically in my bilge?

I have a Sea Ray 370 and I am killing my batteries while out on the water. I'm running fridge, lights, head and an 800W amp with a few speakers. I have 2 batteries for STBD/House but it's not enough and I'd prefer to keep the same footprint in the bilge. I can make up some nice frames and stack two more batteries on top but I'm wondering WHY I shouldn't.

Thanks all.

No reason you can not, just make sure to leave enough room that they do not interfere with each other and so you can get to the cables. Also keep an air space to allow cooling and a way to firmly secure them. I would love to see pictures of what you come up with.

Wouldnt it be easier to crank up gen every few and run it for an hour (to charge)?Assuming if you are spending that much time OTW in that size boat, as it gets hotter you will want AC running too anyway?
