1976 Johnson 75 HP Stinger - starts OK and sounds OK - but when I put it into gear it stalls out. It will stall about 9 of 10 times and when I do get it to stay going, it only goes really slow (almost no wake). i ran it for a while thinking it might "clear" but no luck.

I have cleaned carbs, replaced coils, plugs, fuel lines, new gas with Sta-Bil, etc. Did compression check and results are as follows: Top = 120; Middle = 100; Bottom = 110

Need some troubleshooting tips. Is compression results the cause for the stalling?

Re: Stall Going Into Gear

When it starts to stall push your key in momentarily and see if it picks up and goes. do a search here for a '76 70 horse and you will find the service bulletin on how to fix this problems. You will need to change your high speed jets and do a modification on the pickup tube in the carbs. This is for 70 and 75 hp of this year.
