Hello all! Hopefully someone can help me out on this. I just rebuilt the carbs with a OEM kit. My engine is 93 115hp....... VJ115TLETS. Took the boat out this past weekend and it wouldn't stay running. It would run, then die out (in the water) on the muffs it was fine. I finally got the motor running long enough to get it out on open water and once i opened it up it was fine at WOT and any other speed except idle speed. I read about adjusting the low-idle mixture screw, but i don't think my carbs have a low-idle mixture screw or im just over looking them. Any suggestions on what can can causing this. BTW i rechecked to see if the float & needle was stuck and there fine.

Yes those a all fixed.
You need to check the small holes in the carb are all clear from entry to exit. And unscrew the screws to check that the small orifces arent clogged and the channels behind them and then retighten snuggly.

Blow carb cleaner down them if you can get it or wd40, look for gunk coming out somewhere

Did you check the lynk/sync after you installed the carbs?

Check to see if timer base is engaging correctly. I have had similar problems and finally realized this was the issue. Its causing motor to run lean. Not sure why the timer base is lagging but it hangs and then finally the timing lever jumps forward and the motor runs great.

Well.......this solved my engine problems and I had the exact same issue as you. I hope this information helps you. The timer base was lagging and sticking. It wasn't moving like it's supposed to when the throttle lever moves forward. This explains all of the problems i was having. I wanted to post the result of this problem in hopes that it helps someone else one day. I was told this is a common problem yet no one thought to have me check for it. It's so easy to look for other things yet this is a common occurence and explains all my symptoms.

I had to remove the flywheel completely and then remove the stator and timer base. I am NOT Happy that Evinrude felt it was a good idea to use a cheap plastic retainer ring to keep the timer base in place and the plastic retainer ring is where the friction occurs between the timer base and the motor. THe grease that was applied must have been too thick and it gummed up and that was the problem.

I cleaned it off and used 3-N-1 oil for electric motors (thin lightweight oil). The timer base lever now operates smoothly. My throttle response has NEVER been smoother. All becuase the timer base was lagging behind and not moving forward with the rest of the throttle lever.
