Hi, I have a 93 celebrity with a 5.0 mercruiser. 185 hours on it, recently I changed plugs wires, distributor cap, rotor and water seperater filter. Having problems with it stalling when I go back into neutral after warming it up. 2 minutes or 10 minutes of warm up it still stalls. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sounds like fuel delivery to me. I’d look at anti-siphon valve & maybe carb rebuild to clean things out. How fresh is the gas? Have you tried running from a separate gas tank (eg, run from a gas can directly).

Not much to go on so try opening up the idle mixture screw and checking the choke adjustment

Agree with AllDodge on this one, start simple and go from there. Shift Interrupt would be my first point of attack. If it cuts off right away its electrical. Classic shift interrupt.

If it bogs down and dies, then you have fuel issues and I would start at idle and choke and go from there.

I recently purchased my first boat and had the issues above others have mentioned, more details would help narrow the problem. These were my problems

Old fuel- doesn't idle or run well at mid or WOT throttle cold or hot

Idle Mixture- Best set after engine reaches operating temp in gear on the lake.My engine wouldn't idle also, does yours idle OK if left in gear before putting into neutral? I set my idle mixture on the muffs at home after engine warmed up to get it close and finished on the lake.

Interrupt switch- I had this one also after fixing the other issues which was caused by lower shift cable. Guess this could be caused by engine heat causing cable friction change. My lower cable issue caused engine to die every time I put engine into gear.

If problem started after you worked on the engine a idea would be to change them back

Question then, is the shift interrupt affected during warm up? I have the lever bypassed for lack of better words to rev engine for warm up and I donot see shift switch moving at all until I put it in gear.

Right. What it does is kill ignition for a split second to allow lower unit to shift in and out of gear.

Theres the problem, the switch does not move going into gear .only coming out of gear ,in the water, with a load on the prop

You likely have a bad lower shift cable. Tons of info if you search lower shift cable or shift interrupt switch. It does sound like that, but your description is vague. Are you saying that you can go into gear and the boat works fine, and then it stalls when you try to get back to neutral? If so, that's almost always the shift cable. If that isn't what happens, post a more detailed description of the symptoms.

The shift switch should only move when the boat is in the water, in gear and your shifting into neutral.

Adjust the lower shift cable to make sure its is adjusted correctly

If this is correct, then adjust the shift switch so it is positioned in the center
