As it says in the title I have a Standard Horizon 1400 Eclipse hard mount VHF & a Standard Horizon 890 mounted in the charger cradle. When I plug that into the 12v power outlet on the dashboard it makes interference in the hard mount radio. It is noticeable at first but in a few seconds it starts to fade out.I tried those ferrite noise suppressors but they had no effect. Any suggestions?

It’s not a power issue per say. It’s RFI from the charger causing your problem.

Check the integrity of the fixed mount antenna connector and the ground connections on your charger. A bad ground on either line will cause problems.

Pull the antenna off with the charger on. If noise goes away it’s RFI and the charger is to blame. If it’s a dual input 12/110 charger then I’d bet good money on a bad charger

Other hand, power charger from totally separate power source. If it goes away it’s the power supply to the charger

Thanks will try that out today. The charger is the one that came with the HX 890. Might call Standard Horizon tech support and see what they say. The hard mount radio and the charger from the hand held are both powered off the fuse box under the dash.
