Hello all,

I'm looking at replacing both engines, and the starboard tranny, in a 1966 37' Chris Craft.

Strangely enough on my local Craigslist is a rebuilt starboard - i.e. reverse rotation - engine with transmission for sale as a unit.

Since the one I still need is the standard rotation port engine - and the port tranny is still good - is there any reason not to simply use an automotive engine on that side, switching over the watercooled manifolds and other marine bits?

How old is the motor that's in there? The automotive motor the crank might not match up to your flywheel.Other than that it should work as long as it not too new.Newer has differnt mounting bolts and holes for accessories.J

Thanks, I'll check out the block on the port engine and then see what I can get my hands on.

The PO re-engined about six years ago, so no knowing what blocks are in there now. The existing engines are raw water cooled, while the new starboard I can buy has a fresh water cooling system, so I'll also be looking at a conversion kit for the port.

Stop pumping hot sea water around the block, and maybe they won't need changing again in another 6 years :)
