1977 Starcraft with 120hp OMC. Motor seems to run well, needs trim motor. No substantial leaks in hull. Boat, motor, trailer for $2500. Should I buy? I don't know anything about boats. Please help!

Fiberglass or aluminum? OMC's are obsolete and parts are getting very hard to find as are mechanics to work on them. It's a bummer because I don't think there is/was anything particularly bad about the motors or drives.

Well aluminum is great! Check out the restoration section to see what a bunch of us are doing with these old aluminums. I'd probably go for it but I'd like to see a price of closer to $1500 and that's assuming it's in pretty darn good shape. Good on you for checking with marine mechanics ahead of time about the OMC. Good luck with your test drive. I can definitely say the boats are great.

test drive was tonight. lots of water coming from engine somewhere. seal? gasket? block? is this something to worry about or something to expect with a boat that's so old?
