Went fishing yesterday after supper. We were fishing the flood tide for springs (Chinook) and Coho salmon at a place called Kitty Coleman.
We did not see any springs but managed to scratch up a couple of Coho. They were not clipped so we had to release them gently back to the ocean. Used dummy flashers on the downriggers so the fish were on just a spoon. Nice fun for small fish. There were twenty or so boats out there and including the one we were in a total of three Starcraft. Two SS and one Holiday. I can?t speak for the others but Starcraft boats catch fish.
The prime season for me is just starting on the 20th of this month. That?s when they open my homeport to returning salmon. Every year the springs that return are wonderful to catch and can weigh up to thirty pounds. Personally I have not had one that large but have brought to the boat many in the high twenties. A few years back I had the wife and kid out for an afternoon fish and managed to catch eight springs in four hours. We put one in the box and let the rest go. Now if we could have a year like that one my season would be complete. I will try to get a camera out and post up some pictures to share with my fellow SC fisherman.

sounds like a good evening out, Good luck with the springers , my best so far this year has been 36.4 not a real hog but a nice one just the same. If I get caught up with the home reno's I'm gonna have to find some time to head out and slay some more coho in the old islander next weekend.

Sounds like fun to me GLG:D...I miss the good old days when we would limit out on chinook in Lake Huron, lots of silver, tasty 20lb+ healthy fish.

My folks landed a 33lb chinook out of Lake Michigan once, that's the biggest we've caught.

72 lb Chinook Salmon
Brenden20smiling1.jpg

This hog hit the docks at Sonora Resort this Labour Day weekend. The lodge is just north of me on Sonora Island near Campbell River BC, Canada. This Salmon is a record for that lodge. The previous lodge record was 61 lb from last September, by the same guide. This year?s lucky angler was from the lower mainland of BC around Vancouver.

Here is a link to the lodge, have a look but be forewarned you need to win the lottery to stay there.

I know it has noting to do with Starcraft but hey fishing is an important thing we do with them.

Looks like I need to get my boat up there. ;)

Fishing is the reason I started down the Starcraft path. There are three things I love to talk about; Fishing, Starcrafts and hotrods/muscle cars.

Fishings pictures are A#1 in my book. I love salmon, my biggest is just under 30 pounds from the Au Sable river in Northern Michigan, where I'm sure God has a small cabin, and lives off the grid.:D

I hope some smarty pants marine biologist figures out what's happening to the salmon in Lake Huron. They are dissapearing and the reason is not clear.

Good fishing to you.

Bwana Don a typical Saturday for me is?.
Nice day no wind = Fishing
Windy day no rain = Work on the Starcraft
Windy day and rain = Watch powerblock TV:eek:

It seem Mother Nature is in control in regards to what is happening with the salmon.
Last year DFO predicted 10 million Sockeye Salmon for the Fraser River.
Only 1 million showed up. This year they predicted 10 million and it looks like 35 million are going to show up. Everyone around here is scratching their heads. Biggest run since 1913. For me last year was the best fishing season ever. This year I have to say it?s been weak. Going out today to try my luck. Bringing camera just in case.

Pugetsound on another thread you mentioned that the Skagit River is horrible. No Sockeye on that river? Have you been out on the salt for salmon? I know your new restore was for the river and was wondering how it was working.

Restro. is finished. My photos are in my Album on the forum. Salt very spotty but a few fish .Skagit no season allowed on Sockey ( go figure ) the Indians had a early season and caught many ,many of them. No retention of Chinook or Chum on the Skagit and our seasons are always on the tail end of the runs. How can you ever get all fisherman to refrain from buying licenses for just one year??? That would make a few decisions in there favor from F&G when there thousands of dollars wasen't there for a year. My 16 SS is a nice boat now. However I am not to pleased with the smallness of the boat. Easy to launch and retrive but I got so spoiled with the bigger crafts I have owned. Tight lines and enjoy the saeson. Ed

GLG I think I will find out where on the S kagit they fish for Sturgon and give that a try for a bit. Excellent food fare anyway.
