What about it is hard, are you refering to all the bolts and screws? or physically getting it out?

When I did mine, i put my kid to work taking out the 24 billion screws that hold the splashwell to it. once i removed all the bolts i used an existing hole in the transom to run a wire through, then made a loop with that wire and took a big pry bar (actually its a post hole starter) and rested it on the splashwell to get leverage to lift it straight out.

That 24 foot Chiefton is probably an entirely different animal than some of the smaller boats. Everything's MUCH larger and I assume much harder to remove/replace. Here's a couple shots of a 26 footer. The stern is huge on this one.

What is going on around here?!? At first I thought the Starcrafts were multiplying...now they're getting BIGGER too!! Maybe when I wake up tomorrow I'll find one has invaded my driveway. (wishful thinking )

Dan, just pokin some fun at you about the pics! If your stern is like mine then you'll have to remove the corner castings and the top of the stern to get it out. Fortunately, my transom was rock solid.

Keep at it bud and ask all the questions you need to.

Bob, what type/size starcraft are you looking for. I have an addiction to looking at starcraft stuff and I see some good deals every now and then. I just have to keep talking myself out of buying them.

North Beach - Probably nothing as big as the Chieftain, but I'd love to have something in the 20' range with a small berth that I could take out for a long weekend with the girlfriend. I think they're called Starchiefs. Are any of those models outboards? All of the ones I've seen are i/o models.

Sorry about the thread hijacking!

Re: starcraft chieftain 1973 24foot

Someone mentioned they thought the Starcraft Chieftain was too big for them. It seems there were many lengths of Chieftain. I have a 1969 Starcraft Chieftain that is an I/O with the Mercruiser 140 HP and it is about 21 feet long. I seem to recall that each Chieftain had another name like Starcraft Chieftain Express for example and that referred to a particular model by length as well as propulsion. I have seen my boat as an outboard here in Canada. I actually joined this site to see if anyone knows a site where this data on length vs name is listed. I have restored my Chieftain and love it. I picked it up on EBay about 4 years ago in Rockford Illinois for less than I would pay for the trailer in Manitoba and with just cosmetic work have made it factory fresh. I just installed new upholstery and am having a full camper top made for it. I had a Bimini made two years ago that is great but I want full camper. It has 120Volts, TV, microwave, ham radio, GPS, etc. etc. and is my overnight camper. Just gave it the Seafoam treatment and it runs like a new boat. That is a great product for an older engine. Idles fine at 600 RPM with no shake. That is pretty good for an old 4 cyl for sure. Runs about 33 MPH at 4000 RPMs. This boat weights 2008 lbs says the old book on it so that is a nice speed with the prop they suggest. I usually just loof along at 2000 RPM however and get something like 12-13 MPH which is great for the inland creeks I love to explore. Nicest boat I have every owned. I tried to upload a picture from my computer but the system doesn't seem to be working. I used the picture manager on this site. Anybody know how to do this?
