Starcraft Drainage

OK This is my first post so bear with me if it doesn't work correctly.
I reciently bought a 16ft Starcraft hull on a trailer...that is all that is left after the rotten wood removal.
How has anyone managed to devise a method keep the drainage passages under the inner hull ribs clear. I was thinking I could flush everything really well then cap the ends with Al screen and the entrances to each rib drain with a larger section an screen glued down with a bead of silicone.
As this boat sits aside my garage the water pools ahead of each rib and never drains. They clog with the slightest amount of debris. I could also foam the ribs closed and build up the floor and inch with canned foam and force to water over the top. But that raises the question as to whether canned foam retains water.
I want the beast to drain after I install the new floor!
Also, as I disassembled this thing I would suggest that the transom caps be sealed on all such boats. The water must run down the gunwales and land right on top of the transom plywood end pieces, they were dust as I took them apart.
Thanks, Mike

Mike Welcome to the wonderful world of boat restoration, water in the inner hull is a problem thats naggs every builder outthere, ideas you have sound good,Try it -as far the foam i'd say no best to use a 2-part closed cell type www.shopmaninc.com/fiberglass.html and yes SEAL all wood (<<try this site loads of supplies) ;)

Re: Starcraft Drainage

jomac,
Thanks for the reply. I've decided to sheet over the ribs with a 24" wide strip of taut fiberglass sealed with epoxy from the front the last rib. Heavy water from a rain can wash over the top of the cloth and carry crud to the back. Any drops that get under the cloth will just have to migrate slowly through the slots under the ribs which will hopefully remain clear. So the Briteside paint, and US Composites epoxy are on the way. The Evinrude 60 is three weeks out. I'd better get going. I was looking around the net for Starcraft rebuilds. This man did a beautiful job. http://members.tripod.com/~ourphotopage/index.html
