Re: Starcraft floor replacement
this thread should really be in the resto section.....but ok....here gors
So i put my flooring in and then have them pump the foam in? Where would be a good place to look for someone to do this?
the 2 part expanding foam you need is sold right here at i boats, your local fiberglass store or from us comp.
there are two ways to foam the deck...
AFTER YOU LEAK TEST THE HULL AND SEAL WITH GLUVIT...
one way is to add the foam before you put the deck in....(you just pour it in) then using an electric turkey knife.....cut the exess off to deck height....
another way is to glass in the deck....and then cut "expansion holes" in the deck and then pour in the foam.......there is problems with this method....the foam expansion can and will warp your hull if there is not adiquate expansion or too much foam is poured in.....
tell me about marine board. is this good stuff? pros and cons? thanks for the advice about treated lumber. i had no idea it ate aluminum. i'm torn between the idea of putting carpet in the boat or painting it with sand sprinkled on the last couple coats...
my boat is a great orange color and the paint is in just under perfect condition. just needs shined up. any recommendations on rubbing compounds for buffing? a wax for finishing up? i work at an auto body shop and we use a 3M buffing system for car paints and clear coats would these work good or are there any special marine waxes and compounds?
i'll try and work on getting some photos up here maybe after work tonight with photobucket. i work two jobs so time is something i never have enough of. so no promises on the pictures.
as far as marine ply.......its good....but cost bucks....the glue they use between the ply is water proof.....and there is less or no "voids" between the different layers of ply....it also comes in several different levels of dryness...
the cheapest best "next grade" of wood to use is exterior grade plywood....not osb...but plywood.....5/8ths is great for your floor...(sole, deck) the glue is waterproof....and there is very few voids between the ply....its cheap....but you will still need to dry it.....at least for a week with warm air from a fan blowing on it......
you should really read the compleated restoration forum......and all of the restoration forum.....it will save you tons of mistakes.....and money......
for 4 monthe before i started my project....all i did was read...read....read....
our new " chief of the boat" calls this forum boat university....and he's right !
cheers
