Well it has been real busy the last there weeks, Decided a month ago if I did not build my shop, it probably would never happen, so it's been a wurl wind since the Admiral said go ahead. I had a crew of friends come out for the weekend and we made some great progress.

After some research I found the best way to put the roof on was build the truss sections on two pieces and pay to have them set up there. Took less than an hour.

Re: Starcraft Hanger

I Give up I followed the instructions to a tee on how to post the pics full size from Woodonglass, and now I have left everyone hangin ( just like my roof was). So we are back to thumbnails. sorry.
So the building is 32 x 64, 30 feet on the right hand side of the photo is going to be insulated and heated the two bays on the left will be cold storage for the fifth wheel and future starcraft projects.
If you are in a rural stting the only way to go is a pole building, as the cost is way less than conventional construction.

Dude, that's awesome. I'm going to put up a stinky 3 car garage to replace my 1-1/2 car. I need to move out to the country. I'm a country boy trapped in the city.

I'm jealous! Wish I had a nice big building like that to work in. The only thing I would consider changing would be putting heat in two of the bays instead of one. Good job.

Re: Starcraft Hanger

Thanks everyone, I'm hoping to beat the bad weather but work will probably get in the way. The heated portion is 30 feet wide with a sixteen foot door, so there is room there for two vehicles and a boat on the side, I figured that was enough.

I don't get it. It looks drafty and will leak...and how will you ever heat it?

Glen you can tell we're a wee bit jealous, and for good reason. Very nice.

Re: Starcraft Hanger

I have been waiting 30 years for this and finally able to do it, I still have to figure out how to fix the drafts, and the leaks lol. Heating now that's another story, if you noticed the landscape behind, there are not to many trees around here so wood is out.

If your real quiet and don't tell the wife I think I can fit three finnished projects in the heated side and five or six willing candidates in the other!!!

I quess there are some perks to living in the middle of no where in Sask. Lots only cost $250, there is no zoning and I don't need a building permit. My taxs will only go up $188. a year.

Is there a footing to your pole barn or foundation ?

Re: Starcraft Hanger

No footings, the poles are in the ground four feet with a 12 inch compacted gravel base, then gravel compacted to hold them upright. There will be a concrete slab poured in the shop side, (Friday if all goes right.)

Any vintage Starcraft will be proud to live in that tin can storage facility. Great news on the taxes and permits. Sounds like a good place to hang your hat.:)

Looking forward to seeing the boatel all finished, and the ensuing new boat projects.

My new garage plans include pex tubing in the floor for solar radiant heating. With no trees in the way it should be no problem pointing solar panels to the south. Lay down some 1" foam insulation first. You Tube has all this stuff.

A garage is never big enough but yours would suit me just fine for a long time!

Re: Starcraft Hanger

Well it won't look like a lot of progress from the photos, but the wife and I got a lot done since the last posting, depite the weather. Snow storm and
-8c with 65 k winds for the last three days. The building is ready for the metal go up. We put up the three headers for the doors and installed the windows and man door. I just wish I could find someone resonable to to put the metal on!! The concrete was done four days before the weather turned bad, and the guy did a fantastic job.

Re: Starcraft Hanger

very nice! you're doing some serious bustass there....

i'm afraid the best i'll be able to do this winter is a tarp over the 'chief and a couple of 500W lights inside the "tent"

the good news is that it rarely gets below 25 here and even in Jan,daytimes usually get into 60s. and due to el nino, we're supposed to have a warmer and dryer winter than usual
