I think it's all in what you Google. You G'ed "bed liner removal" maybe and I G'ed "removing bed liner". Same question, but different results. Aircraft stripper was one of the ways mentioned. For the limber holes maybe.
Wonder if that AL plate is meant for a elec. trolling motor.

Don't forget to eat the ears off the chocolate bunnies, JB. Happy Easter.

I agree with GA, the transom board looks like a piece of lumber, not ply. That's what mine had & I wouldn't be surprised if raluminum is pretty pitted underneath. I didn't really do anything about mine though. When you fasten the spalshwell to whatever board you end up with there, make sure you arch it up in the center so the water drains from the center to the two drain tubes.

I used a car jack to get the right arch as I put the screws in (check out post #770 http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=309879&page=31). Some use deck screws for that job but I used SS screws from www.boltdepot.com.

Good luck with that bedliner exorcism, I'll be curious to see what you find works best.

Thanks that jack idea looks perfect to get just a little crown inthe splashwell.

Yeah, based on the link GA left, that really aggressive aircraft stripper will be the 'easiest' & most effective/efficient way to get it off. But it will probably be none of that in practice......

We'll see. Got a little time today for the Red1, then hope to get some time on the SC tomorrow. Then out of town for 3 days again next week

Just another option for ya...

I actually did the opposite and pulled the center of the splashwell down...

Then added a third drain right in the center of the transom...

No triplets here, unless you count the extra FireFlite that really won't be sticking around very long. I'm just glad I finally got the SC home, and although there is some unexpected stuff to handle, namely the bed liner, it's all good. I need to get some OB motor stands built & get to servicing them too.

Carp, I piddled around the house this am, and we weren't supposed to get any rain today, I gear/tool up, and get ready to head over to work on the SC & it's raining....Carp. Maybe it will let up later.... Dang nab it! And now their predicting SNOW tonight/tomorrow. Lulled into a false sense of spring is here:(

Cool beans!! I'm glad it is working out for you! Quite a journey to get it to it's proper home!

Snow --- how did the "S" word pass through the censors???

Psssss - I think you can change the title of this thread....it's home!

First possibly useful tip from a glasser who likes tin...

Be warned, technical terminology about to be used...

Two options for fixing up the logo...after careful removal and cleaning [ie, paint strippage, use pine sol, soak the parts and check regularly...will usually remove old paint with the aid of a toothbrush and won't harm the plastic]...

You can get some styrene plastic at the local hobby shop and shave it into slivers, then dump it in a small bottle filed with either MEK solvent [not MEK-P]...or Ambroid proweld liquid cement...it will turn into a goo that you can use to make small repairs, such as the tip of the arrow...just set it up on some wax paper and glop on more than you need, then final shape it...

The other method is to use this stuff...

http://www.urethanesupply.com/PlastiFix-Kits-1/PlastiFix-Kit-White/

I have also used this, but it is very expensive and best if used to make money while making the repairs......

http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG...E92%26CT%3D16%26TstId%3D&st=feed&mt=~~~~~~~~n~~~

Hope this is of some help...

Curious, what wood are you planning to use for replacement? Any chance you might wanna be the "NewWood" guinea pig???...Just askin...

Have Fun! Brutha...:D

Well, we are at a crossroads of sorts. Lots of stuff changed over the course of a 3 day trip out of town at end of the week. I need to get my boathouse sorted, and make some decisions.

Ez, thank you for the sound advice. I appreciated it a great deal.

I will be absent for a few days, I need to sort some of this stuff out & get a better plan in motion to get a Tinny splashed.

Thank you all for your continued patience, and 'support'

Have a great Sunday!

Well, the rehab has officially started....
Seats, batteries, carp wood set into factory seat brackets has been removed, carp deck/sole removed and I am now carp 'pink styro peanut' rich, oh joy joy.

At least the installation & workmanship for the plywood & spray insulation foam was all done in an exceptionally poor fashion and were definitely an unapproved non-iBoats method/process.

The 2 2/3rd sheets of plywood must have each weighed 15-20lbs. And the doubled TREATED 2X6 tapered stringer easily weighed 30+lbs. Ugh, the whole mess was a very inglorious assault on the olfactory senses

Although I hate the bed liner material, and it is defeating some of the limber holes, it seems to at least be WELL STUCK, and kept the PT ply & 2X6's from attacking the hull, ribs & rivets. I plan to attempt to pressure wash the interior hull and get a little more of the spray foam out of the bow & off the 2 or 3 ribs where it is still hanging on pretty well. In most areas it was very waterlogged & pulled free fairly easily.... So again the bed liner had some benefits......

I may yet pull an early season splash........ Hmmm, motivation......

I registered it today:)

As soon as that arrives, 1 quick inspection, & a title will be issued.

After the registration arrives I'll need to get the trailer situation resolved. but clearly I have some choices....

Wow, pink peanuts, now that's interesting! Hope you had a big shop vac. At least it's lucky that the bed liner kept the PT away from the hull. Curious to see how that pressure washing works out, good idea. Several times during my project I wished I'd had access to one of those. Progress feels good!

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

i'm thinking that a #1 Xacto would work to clean the bedliner out of limber holes....use the pointed blade to trim around the edges of hole and the chisel shaped one to scrape it out from underneath the rib.

those peanuts are a weird solution and not entirely a great one given the air space they leave between em...but at least you know you bought the boat from a fellow bottom feeder of sorts

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

As it turns out the bed liner may not be as well stuck as I thought. But the spray foam is out!

Rotary head @2500psi pressure washer made QUICK work of it @ lunch. If I use the larger 3500psi pressure washer & the rotary head, I suspect that the bed liner will be no more as well..... I need to check the specs on the rotary head, but I think it's rated for 3750psi:cool:. There is water flow thru the limber holes, but I will need to do something, it is very restricted, barely a trickle gets thru from 1 ribbed area to the next.

Got another trash bag of leaves out too.....

Progress is progress......

No. No. I did NOT just see that someone used packing peanuts for flotation.

Yep, I think they took all the packing peanuts from 3 UPS stores:facepalm: and used about 8 large contractor cans of spray foam. The bow was quite a challenge...

3 FULL 45gal garbage bags of HEAVY, wet & fragrant foam peanuts....Those pix are just 1/2.... Ugly, but it is no more..........

I bet that mess all weighed 150+/-lbs.

I read thru a thread @ iBoats on building new internal wiring harnesses. I may need to go that route, the motor's wiring is a wreck, esp at the plug or lack there of. I have ordered a 'gently used' copy of the motor service manual specific to this 1969 40ESL 69R, and although I am leery of the electric shift, I'll spend a little to give it a shot & then leave it as primary motor for the SC. I have the manual already for the 500M Merc & may use it as the go to motor if the electric shift carps out.

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

The bed liner is not well stuck, and had some fairly poor prep done before application. It is succumbing quite well to the rotary nozzle & 3500psi.... Only 20min today. Maybe more later in the week. It is looking like a sad state of affairs but will get better......

I'll add pix when I get home tonight....

Good luck getting over the rest of hump day!

EDIT: It started to rain just as I got home, so a single quick pix, but it seems to peel up pretty easy under the onslaught from 3500psi:D:
IMAG0462.jpg

Got most of the ribs cleaned off, but where the rib is riveted to the hull it will take some work to loosen it. Under the splash & closed bow will be difficult, but it to will be removed............

And now over for a quick FireFlite update too......................

Good luck getting rid of the ugly bedliner stuff... Also, be careful with the 3500 psi... One of the first lawsuits I ever handled was representing a guy who took his airplane in for a paint strip and they blasted it off... The metal completely "stretched" and waffled under the pressure...
