So, charging system...

Found a few hate sites for "Split Charge Relay" systems...

Found a few hate sites for "Split Charge Diode" sytems...

And I am not going to spend alot of money on the "Split Charge Mosfet" systems...

I found this diagram for a "Split Charge Relay" system that was fused.
I felt it solved the significant short comings of the relay system...
I wanted to simplify the charging process also, and decided to use the existing relay. Most relays have dual "#86" pins.
Make one pin the charging system as normal...

use the other pin to activate the relay when you plug in your battery charger.
This will allow for dual charging and keep the systems seperate.

I think the recomended 30amp fuse is good for charging.
(my battery charger only hits 6amp anyway)
and the motor charging system can do more, but this allows fora controlled flow, and protects the system from blowing the relay or either charging system...

Thoughts?

Well, the fuel tank could be mounted below deck ...

...misery loves company!:D

I like the idea of the above deck in the seat...
More access, ease, etc....

However, the below deck really give me more space and control of weight distribution....

Where did you get that tank???

Thanks

Azonic, I got my tank from a local marine store. I had written off a larger tank when I stumbled across a bunch of surplus tanks. I was glad to find it as I am concerned about the amount of storage space I'll have available anyway.

However you rebuild your boat, you and your family will enjoy time together when using it. It don't get better than that!

I will have to do some "surplus" shopping!!

I found a few tanks that woudl work in an under deck or a forward tank..
and are 13 - 18 gallons.

I don't need over the 12 or 13 gallons I have in red tanks, but would do the 18 just to get it below deck...

Space is going to be tight..

I went out on Friday night, and had a good time with the kiddos..

I used the boat as a stand up helm rig for a while too.
Had to reach for the throttle, but the steering was close enough to get a feel for the boat standing up and in the center..

I like it!!

Good visibility and balance.

Of course, the helm needs to come up about a foot for it to be in a good spot.
But works all in all...

What are you fishing for, and how do plan to for them fishing?

For most types of boating (fishing) CC's do a poor job and waste a tremendous amount of space.

How do I know..... my jet boat was a CC when I got it....terrible design.... hard to even fish two people out of it, my plan was to change it from the start though. Now I have a great deal more room, plus storage.

I also have 19 CC, very good boat, but for the type of fishing I do its terrible.

Look at a bass boat, they use the space better than most other designs and what do they have... side or dual consoles, and plenty of room to get around.

Small CC's can be very hard to get around in, have very little storage space, no protection from the weather, it can be dangerous to walk around the console and families tend to dislike them.

People think its easy to get around in a CC, try it, in the water a small CC can be very tippy, add waves, current and another person and it becomes a real chore.

My buddy has an Alaskan, he made it into a side console, it has far more room and you can actually get around in it.

we fish for what ever will bite on what the kids have on their hook!

That has to be what everyone else does!!???

We mostly fish for Crappie and white bass.

We live in a good area for big and small mouth bass too...

It is the wrong boat to set up as a pleasure runabout, so a nice little fishing boat is what she shall be! She was bought to be a little fisher too...

Azonic,

Late on finding this thread. If you want to charge two batteries, you might look at the Duo Charge. This works great for me (but you have to wire it up "backwards" to do what I do). The idea is that it charges you starter battery until it's fully charged, then stops charging the starter battery and starts charging the aux battery. Again, it's tricky to hook up (backward from the instructions for this purpose). PM me if you decide to go this route. It's not cheap, but for me, having a dead battery is a couple hundred bucks down the drain...

Boats get set up for specific types of fish and fishing techniques, a boat set up to troll for walleye is very different from a boat set to troll for salmon, which is very different from a boat set up to troll for large fish offshore.

There are several different boat designs for fishing salmon and steelhead in rivers, same fish, but different water or techniques, now if you fish strictly for bass your boat will be setup much different than for crappie or catfish.

You can use most boats for many types of fishing, they may not be the right tool for the job though, deciding what you want to fish for and then the methods you want to use will narrow down the choices on the type of the boat you'll need.

Re: Starcraft Mariner V to shallow/narrow for a center console?

I decided to go with a center console in mine because I will only be trolling for bigger fish out in the ocean. I feel that a center console is the best setup for saltwater fishing/ trolling.
