Mine just has the one. I'll take a pic of it tonight... but it looks just like ezmobee's.


OH, a few other questions. Im going to start prepping the outside of the hull while i wait for gluvit and stuff... what should i be hitting it with to get it ready for paint?

there are a few scratches that will show through the paint, what can i do about them?

Sand them and feather them out...... get a spray can of zinc chromate primer to touch up the bare aluminum...... the rest of the paint needs to be scuffed and sanded with 150-220 to prepare it for paint. Depending in the paint you can paint right over the old stuff.

You probably will not need primer but yes zinc chromate works great. Look at North Beaches restoration and he used zinc chromate

I dont think he stripped the entire hull, but he blasted all of the rivets... dont know if that changes anything...

Gluvit inside. ..... only on the rivets and seams.... a little bit goes a LONG way.

I had screws holding my footrest and along the sideboards.

I had rivets on the stringers and a few of the edges.

I have a special request.....a picture of the transom as seen from inside ..... I want to see your knee braces. Hey ezmobee yours too ....... (side note I am beginning to question which model I have based on the stringers and I have triple knee braces on the transom )


Interesting but my bilge outlet is on the starboard side near the top of the hull.

Bob I dont have a picture but I only have one knee brace . My bilge is on the portside in about the same location as yours is on the starboard. My interior looks just like Andy's even the colors are exact the only differance is the Dash guage layout . Mine is a 1970 Jupiter V . I dont however have the decorative pieces in the middle of the side panels aaaaand my boat had decals on the sides and not plastic Starcraft Logo's which leads me to think Andy's is a 68-69.

Andy..Glad you got her..I posted the THUMBS UP on your OG post about this girl..
Now paint..Take a look at what I got done with 40 bucks of trusty Rusty-o-leum....If the original paint is good, no flakes or other major issues, just sand her to remove oxidation and scuff up the surface..No need to primer, the original paint will be your primer..Wipe down with vinegar and water, I actually used some mineral spirits, then a wet rag..

Before...

After rolling on the paint with a closed cell foam roller..Hey, it's just alum siding!

And here is the Gunnel area sprayed with black truck bed liner from the local Autozone...Makes a nice look and is durable for pliers and other junk tossed in there..

what did it cost you? how long did it take?

When I did my transom I just cut a sliver off of that overlapping piece of metal. It's covered by the caps anyway.

did you cut it right to the inside edge of the transom wood?

Oh, and a question about your swim platform... how well does it work with the way the splashwell is shaped?

Yes. I cut as little as possible to get the wood out. Actually to be honest my existing transom was mulch so it was more to get the new one in!

And I don't have a swim platform....

Hey Andy..
You have been a busy little beaver..lol

On my boat I used Rustoleum. Gloss White & Royal Blue.

Took about 40.00 @ $20.00 a quart. Plus misc foam rollers, tape ectera..I would say I have no more than 6 hours time and less than 75.00 bucks in total paint and materials...Make sure you use the ones for cabinets or very smooth surfaces if you go this route.

I found a small 4 inch disposable one that really worked well for the bottom half..

I did each side in just a couple hours. Put on a coat, let it sit for 45 minutes, rolled another one...If you roll too fast/hard you will get bubbles, I learned to lightly roll over them again with no pressure and they went away..

For the bottom, I have spots I need to finish..I have to get her off the trailer to finish..I just got up under there as far as I could with her on the trailer.

Dremel with cutting wheel on it.

My swim ladder appears to me to be a home-brew contraption made from a section of aluminum step ladder cut and hinged. It actually works awesome! Much better than a lot of the little swim steps you see on newer boats. It's not overly attractive though.
