Hay Andy, wet sanding is easy, I used a spray bottle and just keep it wet, take it easy , you can take a lot off quick !!! what grit do you have ?? I started with 220 and worked my way to 2000 grit !! John

PS she's looking great !!!

Well the paint has to be completely set up. In your case depending on how bad the orange peel is I would start with 600 and examine the results. If it is not cutting the orange peel then I would move to 400. I would hate to see you start course since you would have to re-paint an error.

Use a sanding block, a quart spray bottle of water and a bucket of water..... have a gentle touch.

Andy she looks great. I didnt get to touch mine this weekend .

After you wetsand down to 2000 grit . You can buff it with some ( Polishing compound ) if you wish and then wax . Some skip the buffing and go straight to the wax. All the buffing will do is get rid of any sanding scratches left from the 2000 grit paper.

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

well, no work today... it rained on and off, so i couldnt do the 3 things i need to do... some touch up painting, painting the deck and trimming the transom and reapplying some resin to the trimmed areas.

the freakin weather here is unbelievable... its rained for almost 2 straight weeks, and forecasted to rain for at least the next week! not to mention the temps... highs only in the upper 60's and lows in the mid 40's!!! normally we are 80 for the high and 65 for the low... so we are only 20 degrees of...

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

so i was thinking this morning... about how much i have into this... and it blew my mind. i have everything i need, except vinyl but have the $$$ put aside for it. When I am done, I will be into this for only $1150, including what i paid for it, repower, trailer work and materials. hot damn! that makes me REALLY happy.

You're better off than me. However I spread mine out. First year was the interior and all the work to get the motor running. Second year was gauges, windshield and painting it. Third year was new steering. Last year was the transom and a fish finder. This year I didn't have to do a thing! (ok I lied, this has been the year of the trailer an none of that has gone well).

That was going to be the plan with the mfg... but i like this boat better, and honestly... this is going to sound stupid, but everyone else likes it more too...

its wierd. everyone i know talks about how when they got a boat, friends came out of the woodwork to go out on it with them. me? i couldnt convince people to come out and hang with us. but now that the starcraft is painted, they are all like "when is it going to be ready? i want to go out on it"

i am going to get all the hardware back on, motor mounted, dash covered, floor painted and side panels made. then seats in and on the water!

I 100% agree with you!

Well, no work yesterday due to more freakin rain! today I plan to get the transom buttoned up and maybe the motor mounted. but maybe not... im going to a county auction saturday, and i hear they are going to have outboards... so i may drop a few bucks if i can get something bigger than the 50 i have... we'll see...

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

 just ordered some pt ply for the outer transom where the motor mounts, and for my side panels...

$50 for 2 sheets of 1/2"!!!!

Question regarding the piece of ply that goes on the OUTSIDE of the transom... do I just use the 4 bolts, or should I lay a bead of 5200 around the edge of it?

EDIT one more question, regarding fastening the vinyl to the side panels... spray adhesive or staples?

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

I skipped the piece on the outer transom. Didn't appear to serve much purpose and it looks nicer without it. I'm on my 2nd season without it to no ill effect. I'm also pretty sure you don't want to use PT on there. If you do reinstall it (I really wouldn't) definitely 5200 the edge and around all the holes.

I'd use staples AND adhesive for the vinyl.
