Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PIC UPDATE 7-21-09

well, bob_vt was just here for a bit, scrutinizing every inch of my boat... :p we shot the breeze for a bit and just after he headed home i went and got some gas and fired up the evinrude and am doing a decarb on it... probably wont get much else done on it today as my buddy is coming over in a bit to take some firewood as payment for the carb i broke on his splitter in the spring (dont ask how i did it)... and we are going to split what litttle bit i have left to split. but all i really need to do at this point is:

secure battery and gas tank

drain tubes for transom drains

bilge pump

cleats

registration

pick up some gear

im all go for saturday... t minus 64 hours...

Hope you make the big deadline...sounds like you are on your way. So did Bob find any issues that you'd missed at all? Sounds like you got a free, quality, expert boat inspection;)

As far as the battery...I'm considering taking 4 large washers and stainless screws and permanently attaching the plastic case w/ waterproof cover to my deck rather than using the provided straps. Just thought I'd throw that out there, you could also use bungees in conjunction with the case being mounted.

So...what happened with the log splitter? (I'm a bit of an amateur woodsman/lumberjack myself and...well I'm curious)

BTW that is one ample supply of wood you've got for the winter:D

So here I am driving along in Northern NY...... holy carp....those are some hugewind farm towers:eek:

I question the effectiveness of the "Wind Farming" in Andy's area since I could still feel a breeze going past;) Maybe they need to be re-propped :p

Nice boat Andy, nice wife and an adorable little daughter :)

Yup I was not too far away so Andy and I spoke and I drove up to his place. The boat looks good and I can see how itchy he is to slash it this weekend.

During my 140 mile trip home it started raining  and it is still raining  I sincerely hope you get good weather for your launch day.

Guess what.... I am headed back north to Plattsburgh this evening..... grrrrr work never ends.

Good Job on the boat!

well, heres what happened with the splitter... i was using it one day this spring, and it was starting to rain. i was rushing to get it covered with a tarp... not my splitter so i wouldnt want to take the chance of it sitting in the rain... so anyways in my haste i tripped and caught the air filter with my side/shirt and cracked the carb right at the base. i was left with a cut, bruise and $70 repair bill.

Well, you are always welcome to stop by when you are in the area. the forecast is saying 79 and sunny all day saturday, but im nervous right now. maybe its just me though.

after you left i got that baby cranked up, and i cant believe how easily it starts. i started doing a decarb (1 gal gas, 1 pint of seafoam... run for 10, sit for 20, run for 10, etc) and after few times of running it just seemed like it was running hot... the head was too hot for me to touch for more than 2-3 sec... and the last time i shut it off there was a wisp of white smoke that came out AFTER it was off... where i hadnt noticed that before. im gonna go post in the johnnyrude forum to get some help...

maybe i am just over reacting.

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PIC UPDATE 7-21-09

Hope you get it all done and on the water soon.

I've broken out the old Speedo and plan on wearing it to the lake on my boat in honor of your launch date. It used to fit great when I was at my fighting weight of 275.....but it's a tad snug now......must have shrunk in the dryer.

It took me an hour and a whole can of WD40 just to put the dad-burned thing on last weekend......Hopefully I'll be able to take it off this weekend if I keep eating salad the rest of the week. Is it just me or isn't spandex not supposed to chaffe the skin?.......oh well

Can't understand why the neighbors won't talk to me anymore......they just look away and go inside.....go figure.....and I have no idea what the police officer that came out meant by "public nuisance".....heck it's my front yard

Seriously man, you've done an absolute KILLER job on that Starcraft! Can't wait to see the finished pictures and some of her making wakes!

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PIC UPDATE 7-21-09

Well guys, its officially crunch time. t minus 24 hours.

last night all i really got done was the bilge pump wired up, but not plumbed. seems when i redrilled the hole through the transom i used i size too small bit and the hose wont go through. no biggie.

i also got the splashwell draintubes in, as i was doing the second one my tube of 5200 EXPLODED in my hand... leaving a gooey mess that i still have not gotten off... so i picked up another tube last night and just have to lay some on the inside of the transom around the tubes.

i also picked up some stuff i needed like ropes, paddle, battery box, 5200 (actually its the atwood brand marine sealant), plugs, etc.

heres my punchlist:

registration (going in about 30 min to do that)

hose for bilge pump plumbed

seal inside of splashwell drain tubes

cleats

battery box

gas her up and go!!!

im as ready as i'll ever be. 10am tomorrow we hit the launch.

its wierd, i feel like i have been working on this boat for years... but really its been 6 weeks!!! remember this?? http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?p=2158648#post2158648

Shes registered!!! and looks like someone fibbed... the dmv says its 15'... even though the LOA measured by me was 15'11", so unless they round down almost a foot...

but in ny anything over 16' is more expensive to register...
