I have finished designing and building the back seats. They are built of plywood and aluminum.

The middle section is built like a small cabinet. It uses 5/8 inch ply for the sides. The top is notched so it can fit under the splashwell.



The panels were painted black and the bottom of each side was epoxied to protect if from sitting on wet carpet.


Vinyl was attached and the back and bottom were edged with aluminum.


The sided of the panels were cut to account for the bevel in the side of the boat.



This last picture is of the back of the seat being cut to shape.

The back of the seats were fitted into the boat.


One of the goals of the design was to be able to get to the underside of the splashwell with no effort. So, the backs were mounted onto aluminum channels that act as slides.



You can see in the next pic that it slides up and down.


All the aluminum was notched to a perfect angle with these snips.

The backs were trimmed with aluminum and vinyl.


I used the same approach for the seat bottoms.



The sides of the bottom are hinged and flip sideways. The middle portion is hinged and flip backwards. This is where the battery is going to go.


The very bottom is also designed to be removable. the panel slides in an aluminum channel. When it is in, the panel acts as a support for the seat bottom.


When both the seat back and the seat bottom are out, you have complete access to the splashwell area.

This is what it looks like with only the middle seat flipped up.


The seat bottoms have carpet on them. This is so if i want to stand on them to go fishing, it will not be a big deal. I am going to make cusions for them.

So..... how long did it take, too long. I have about 34 hours in the design and building of the back seat. Cost. $0. The aluminum trim comes from various parts of a bunch of aluminum screen doors I had from my house (I saved them when they were all replaced several years ago) Some of the aluminum comes from a neighbor that also had a stash of aluminum odds and ends. The hinge was a piano hinge, also left over from a previous project.

Grand total is now 189 hours.

Hope to get the motor on this weekend......I have a wedding to go to, so i may not have the time.

Let's be sensible here, filltbo. If it's not your wedding you can stay home and work on the SS.

The seats look good on the pics that did come through. Are you going to use snaps or Velcro to keep the cushions in place when you aren't standing on them fishing?

I suspect that I will be using velcro to attach the seat cusions. Or maybe long straps so that they can just be strapped onto the bottom seat.

Here are the latest pics showing the mostly completed interior. I am working on the electric now and on the motor.

Which brings me to a big question. The motor was running rough... not surprizing for a motor that has been sitting for 2 decades. I was having fuel delivery problems with the needle valves sticking. I pulled the carbs, cleaned them and my son noticed the the "pickup tube" / venturi tube / jet tube that pulls the gas from the bowl up to the air/fuel mix part of the car was missing the little inner tube (this is a 1976 johnson 75 hp). Indeed it was in the bottom of the bowl. It looks like the brass corroded and the little tube fell out. I can not find it on the part listing.... what is the real name of this part? And am I better just buying a new carb instead of trying to fiddle with this?

Great work on the rear seat. Clean functional and removable.

On the carb, don't know the exact model of the motor.

Doesn't look like a venturi is listed. I saw some used bodies that were available, might have to go that direction. Others should chime in.

@ME, I think the just '76 75hp carb body only was @$55 NOS, not aftermarket. Would the venturi's be installed, if they aren't listed separately?

The model number of the Johnson 75 hp is 75ELR76D.. I tried to get the ventury tube off with a screwdriver... no luck. the brass looks to be fused to the aluminum.
I did upper carb for 55 bucks, but I am not sure it is the whole assembly or just the casing.

I just got a response back... So How am I suppose to get a new venturi tube or carburator that has one? Seems like a dead end.

Even the seloc marine manual for this motor does not talk about the venturi tube....Any ideas out there?

I would think if its not shown in the listing as a seperate part it must come with the carb body.....already installed.

Those carbs were used on lots of motors, got a BRP dealer nearby with one on the shelf you could take a look at?

Thanks all for your good advice on the carburator. I figured for $55 it was best just to order one and see what I got. To my surprise, the carb came in and it was essentially complete!. The 3 attaced pics are of the carburator exactly as I recieved it. -+







Since then, I have attached it to the motor, and it RUNS GREAT. The low speed pickup tube now allows me to idle without having to rev it up and have the choke on.

Expenses.... another $55 and about 1 hour to get it on the motor.
