i have been converting this boat to use for fishing and camping with..ripped all the seats etc. off and put posts and seats like a bass boat etc.
i am trying not to go crazy with it but i looked below deck and saw the gas tank and noticed the water an flow under the deck in the compartment and to the rear and out..if i remember correctly it has a bilge pump in the rear and it occurred to me that that if it were to take a big wave over the bow(as in ocean use) it might have quite a bit of water in it and that might be dangerous in a really bad sea.
my original intention was fresh water overnight fishing mainly..but since i do salmon fishing and have wanted a boat that i could take long range tuna fishing i am wondering if this might actually work with this boat.
lots of boats(like whalers) have center console and will take really nasty seas and waves over the bow with no problem..but i get the feeling this might be nuts and dangerous on this boat.
so..i am wondering if anyone has done this or knows how good the floatation it with this boat etc?
mine has a 135 merc. on it and with the shape of the hull seems to better i expected with fuel for an older 2 stroke.
maybe with some extra gas cans i might get out 40 miles in the ocean on a calm day and troll and get back safely..but
i need to use it more to get a better idea of the range in freshwater first..i have only taken it out once so far.
it will cruise at about 28 mph it seems pretty efficiently..and will hit top speed of 35 mph..which i find surprising.
any input on this would be greatly appreciated if anybody else has one of these and has used it in the ocean.
thanks.
