Hi! i have a 1967...18 foot..StarCraft Holiday...i just replaced the transom using (2) 3/4" marine plywood..plus i used a 3/4" motor pad..plus i encased the inside of the transon,,( motor well )..with 1/8" alumium plate...my marine mechanic now tells me that the transom wood thickness is suppose to be 2 inches thick...should i redo the transom over again...i want to put a Yam F90 on my boat...is my transon strong enough as it stands now...??????

2" thick because of the clamp bracket
i would look into aluminum plates as spacers

3/4 + 3/4= 1 1/2 + 3/4 pad + 1/8 plate= 2 3/8. remove the 3/4 motor pad, and use a 3/8" motor pad, could be aluminum motor pad.

Hi! Thank you for the input for my question...i may of asked my question the wrong way, but...a Yam F90 will fit my transom as it is now...no problems there..my concern is ....is my transom strong enough to handle the weight & torque of a Yam F90 the way the transom is built now..Tug

what did your marine mechanic think? did he say he didn't think it would hold the motor or that it was supposed to be 2"?

also, if there is any question, you could always call your local USCG auxilary (if there's one near your city) and have them send someone out to inspect it.

marine mechanic said that he wouldn`t recommend putting a Yam F90 on because of the torque because i only used 1.5 " instead of 2 " for the main wooden part of the transom.....i don`t think 2 inches would fit...i had to shape the alum transom cap to fit when i just added the 1/8" alum. inside skin...he said a Yam F75 would be fine...( F90 & F75 ) ..weigh the same..others say it would be ok.. does anyone know if a 1967 ..18 ft..StarCraft..Holiday has a 2 inch thick wooden transom...i have a Yam 50 on my boat now..way under powered..i`d like to put a F90 on it if a can...thanks

Re: StarCraft Transom

imho, you have no problem, if it is a full transom. most fiberglass transoms are glass, 2 plys of 3/4 and glass.
