Iam looking at buying this boat, I want to use it for fishing in the ocean I think it will be a nice upgrade from my current boat which is a 14' open aluminum. What model of starcraft is this? and is this a good model to get into? any ideas on the year of it? And any idea on how fast it will go and if it will be able to tow a tuber? The seller is very hard to communicate with and the trailer isn't insured so the boat cannot be taken out at all. Iam not a big fan of the curved winshield I much prefer the "boxier" looking winshields but other then that it seems like a decent buy for the condition.

It's a 1960's model. Very similar to my Jupiter. Mine is a 16' though. Price seems high (even converting it to US$). I thought they only made 14' and 16'. I wonder if his length is incorrect. If it's the 16' then I feel it's underpowered.

I think 92.3% of the asking price is that Honda 4 stroker! :p

If there was an old rude hanging on her, it's a $1,000 boat maybe?

Yea I haven't seen the inside of it yet so Iam not sure about the coastguard tag on it and its min and max power ratings. If it is a 16 foot and its under powered what kinda speeds could I expect from it? If its a 14 footer is it a decent ammount of power for it and what kinda speeds could I expect from it. I would use if for 80% fishing with 2 adults on board, and 20% at the lake with 3 adults on board and hopefully some tubing. Iam in the middle of trying to contact the owner but he is not very responsive I would really like to take a good look inside and out of the boat. Is this type of starcraft a quality build, is there anything I should look at specifically with a hull this old, I want it for fishing in the ocean so everytime I use it, it will take a beating on 2-4foot chop constantly.

Starcraft has a good rep on here as they are a very well built boat, but it might get a little uncomfortable in a constant 2-4 ft chop. You'd probably be alright on the bay, but I wouldn't go offshore.

If it is like mine it has a fairly flat bottom and thus is pretty bad in the chop. I watch the weather forecast carefully with mine and don't typically go out if they call for more than 10mph winds. If it's a 16' you'll be lucky to see 30mph out if. Probably 35 if it's a 14'. Personally I don't like my closed bow boat much for fishing. I'd much prefer something with an open bow and casting deck in the front or something like that. All in all I really think this boat is not at all ideal for the things you want to do with it and is expensive because of that Honda on the back. You could certainly get much more boat/motor if you settled for something with an older, possibly 2 stroke motor on it.

I would go out to the area where I take my current boat which is an open 14ft aluminum cartopper type boat with a 20hp on it and it handles the chop ok. I can only say that this boat would handle it better then my current boat and any upgrade is welcome. Its very bumpy heading out to the fishin spots but it gets the job done. I am not going to be doing any casting from it, I like the closed bow design, all the fishing iam going to be doing will be trolling so no casting deck or area is required. I would probobly offer in the high 2000s somewhere if the motor runs very well, and the seats and hull appear to be in good shape upon inspection.

You must really be young to call a 2-4 ft chop bumpy. At my age it's called bone jarring.

Think the guys are right, your buying the motor and getting the boat as a bonus. But it would be an improvement over what you have. :)

Now that this thread has been revived, did you buy the boat?

Glad you caught that canuckjgc, I didn't pay a bit of attention to the dates when looking at the answers and would like to know the outcome too.
