I vote NO to locking old threads.

I'll have to second this although I don't think my opinion counts much.

I've been on this forum for 5 years and very rarely see old posts brought up that cause any kind of a problem. Generally they're ignored, closed or the person that brings them back is educated about the fact the post is OLD.

Exactly................. What we would like to stop is posts being ignored, closed, or educating the new poster. If he can't bring up an old post, he will have to ask his own question. Which is exactly what we are wanting. We don't want to answer an old original post with new info only to find it was an OLD post brought back to life by a newbe that didn't know it was not a good idea. If it's closed and he can't post to it, he has to start a new thread.

I'm here every day, actually multiple times a day to see what's going on... I've seen it all. I just don't have the boat experience you guys have to contribute a whole lot and when I do have something to contribute it's generally already been said. Guess you can call me an uber nerd that I visit as much as I do but I learn a ton reading everything that goes on ;)

Fair enough.

My whole point was to eliminate redundant information (info that hasn't changed since the original post). Just a time saver. Like I said, just tossing my forum experience out there as an admin, trying to help. I'll stop now.

Re: Start your own thread !

Chopper it's dead right here in this forum right now, and yes maybe i do have a case of cabin fever, snowing today and i really can't do anything to the cars or boats.Even Boy Scouts are canceled, please don't take anything anyone says here as a insult.

Please keep posting your ideas, everyone can contribute and i for one do not wish to lose one member cause of something i posted.

Jax you are 100 percent correct, in that this may have been better posted in the chat or the other forums, but this forum is where i do 99 percent of my posting, and i see the posting to old threads done mostly here also.

As Bond-o has posted, i too use 2 fingers and do not type as fast as some of you guys and sometimes it takes me a half hour to peck out a reply.

Then i see old thread. Yes i should check every thread and when it was posted but i am still learning not to assume anything here.

See there is the reasons.

I have stated and i feel just getting it out in the open someone might read this and understand the reasons not to reply to a old thread.

And no i do not feel i broke some rule or showed the forums any disrespect in posting this here.

Thank you guys for reading and contributing to this one.

I'll third the voting no on closing them. It's true posters should check the archive but how hard is it to refer someone with a question to an older post. Secondly Boats, Methods and Products have improved and changed so the answer might be different to a question or problem now than it was five years ago.
Thirdly it is extremely hard to post a new thread in iboats. I've spent several minuets trying to find a way to post a new thread. Why isn't the avenue up in the header bar where calendar, new posts, FAQ and so on are to start new threads? Also while we are at this much needed improvement why isn't the next page located at the bottom of the page your looking at as well, like it is on the top of the page. On multiple page posts/replies you have to go all the way back to the top to switch pages. Just two improvements that I have saw that could be made over the past three or four years that I 've belonged to iboats. These are meant to be constructive criticisms not mean. I still think iboats is the best and the Moderators do a fantastic job.

Re: Start your own thread !

The next page is at the lower part if you keep scrolling.

You could just link the old post to the new thread.

There is a FAQ and there is in this forum and all the forums a how to post sticky.

The one here at this forum is i believe is the best one, and the mod who created it is reachable bye PM.
