starter 1972 rude

would anybody have the specs on the starter for an 85 HP 1972 rude? Mainly the resistance on the windings.From the main terminal to ground? Starter turns with no load N/G with load..battery, cable and connectors all good.thanks

Hi mm....generally speaking, when a starter starts doing what your describing, the brushes are shot and need replaced. Also the commutator will probably be grimy with carbon from the brushes. Easy enough to replace.<br /><br />Sorry, can't help with resistance spec's.

ok thanks, this looks like a new or rebuilt one. The other day it got real hot, the solenoid got stuck and it started to smoke. I then replaced it(solenoid). Got a feeling it's cooked..
