Starter/Battery 115 1984 Evenrude

Hi All,
Once and a while the starter gear on my 115 1984 Evenrude won't go up and engage the flywheel. Once it does engage the motor turns over fine. So my question is: Do I need a new starter or starter rebuild kit, or would the problem be that the battery drains enough that the starter does not have the tourqe to engage the starter gear up into the flywheel.

Hey Arrow
The starter on my 70hp Johnson was doing the same thing. All I did was lubricate the spring shaft with some WD40 give that a try. Hope it works for you like it did for me!

light weight oil, like 3 in 1 is better, don't put so much it runs down into the starter.
