Starter bendix sticking

I have 86 90hp motor and the starter bendix keeps sticking on it, i would like to no if this is something i can fix, i was thinking of taking the starter off and removing the bendix and cleaning it out real good, or do i need to look at getting another starter, the only way to get the eng to start is you have to stick a something under the starter while it is spinning and pop up to engage the starter.

Get a little 3 n 1 oil and give the shaft a light squirt. Same thing happened to my johnson out on the lake. Squirt of oil and it moved up and down the shaft like it was supposed to. Doesn't take much, just a little bit.
