Starter Bendix??

Well, I have had this boat for 4 years and have had no real issues with it. Took it out earlier and ran fine. Stopped the engine and when I went to start it, it made a loud grinding sound when I turned the switch. Immediately stopped. Turned it again and I could hear the starter spinning but making no contact with flywheel. Does this sound like a starter bendix problem? If so, where can I find one for a 1986 OMC 3.0L 4 cylinder. I have looked all over the web and have had no success. Thanks

Pull the starter off before you try to start it again and look at the end of the starter, the bendix, and the teeth on the flywheel.
A 3.0L has broke the end off several starters, snapped mount bolts, and destroyed bendix's and flywheel ring gear teeth on many occasions.
