Any help will be appreciated. I have a 1973 searay 19"ski boat with a mercruiser 888(ford 302) and im having a electrial problem think maybe a fuse. I installed a new starter and solenoid and went to crank the boat over and the starter was crankin fine, then it keep going when i stopped and then took the key out, still goin then it started smoking:eek: so quickly i turn the main switch to off. Waited 20min then turn the main switch on and the it started cranking over so i shut it off. Anyone have this happen? is it a fuse thing? im:confused:

Re: Starter, electrical problem

Are you sure the starter is wired as before?

Undo the large red wire(s) to the starter solenoid, then place an ohmmeter on the 2 large solenoid studs.

0Ω ? The solenoid is arc'd together, on all the time.

Infinity? Key switch may be stuck on start.
