Hi listers
I have problem with my Johnson 90 hp starter.
The whole motor has been drowned in the sea.
Everything is now cleaned but when i try to start
the engine the starter goes in the wrong direction
this also happens when i connect the wires directly to the battery. The connections are double checked but there seems to me that the starter just has changed its polarity. Can anyone supply me with a tip what to do with it?

Hello, Lupus.

Did you dismantle the starter?

When you reassembled it you probably connected the brushes to the wrong terminals (reversed them).

That is the only way that I know to get a series DC motor to reverse direction.

Good luck. :)

Reverse the case, or switch the end caps from one end to the other end. Very easy to do if you do not mark case when taking starter apart.

Try rotating the brush end cap 180 degrees.
