Starter issue... Strike One... Strike 2...

I've been troubleshooting the starter in my 1997 4.3lx Mercruiser boat. Long story short I get the "click". I checked the battery, checked for water in the cylinders, engine is not stuck, I put a hi-torque starter on it and it rolls over slow, Then I tried a new starter. Nothing. Strike one. So I replaced the starter solenoid... strike 2. Same issues.

What's left. All of my battery connections appear to be bright and shiny... no corrosion. Could my fuse be bad?

Pitch me a good one (preferably underhanded)

only thing left is a corroded battery cable, cable crimp, are your ends copper or steel?

Bad battery cable? Use jumper cables. Use neg to the body of the starter. Use positve to jumper the positive. Then try starting. If that fixes it, its one of the cables or your ground. If not it could be the battery. Use those jumper cables to hook it up to your truck and try again!

Sounds like one of two things to me

1 bad battery. Just because it can make 12v does not mean its good
-either check the voltage while someone turns the key to start or hook up jumpers from your truck and see if it starts

2 bad battery cable. Test as directed above

Hope this helps
