2004 Merc I/O 190 HP. Last season battery leaked and corruded the wires on + mount. Cleaned up the wire leads and replaced battery. Boat assesories have power: radio, trim.... etc. Turn key the motor didn't turn over. There is a clicken sound coming from the Distributer? I beleive. Would this be a starter problem or a bad connection? Thanks for your help.

Re: Starter Issue

The power and ground wires are probably rotted through internally and need replacing.

Re: Starter Issue

I'm not much on wiring & electrical work. Are you recommending cutting back on the RED power wires/hookups and placing new connectors on then re-attaching to the battery? There's like 4 or 5 wires leading to the + post on the battery. The ones on the - post weren't effective and look good.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it!

Re: Starter Issue

The clicking sound you are hearing is probably from your starter. Are you getting one click or a series of clicks?

A series of clicks can indicate insufficient power. Insufficient power can come from a discharged or bad battery, or faulty wiring between the battery and the starter.

Just one click can indicate a bad starter solenoid. The remedy is to replace or rebuild the solenoid.

Re: Starter Issue

I'm getting a series of clicks. The battery is brand new- just purchased. Last season the old battery leaked and corruded the correctors on the wires on + mount. I Cleaned up the wire leads but maybe I didn't do a good enough job??
Does it make a difference if the Boat assesories have power: radio, trim.... etc. or do these require less power, therefore run fine?
Thanks for your help.
