starter issue?

Hi. I have a 1988 Four Winns with a OMC Cobra 5.7 liter. The boat starts great but sometimes it makes a weird grinding-ish noise for about a second after it turns over. It always starts and this has only been happening the last few times out. Also it does not happen every time i start it. Any ideas would be helpful!

Could be the bendix not releasing?
The solenoid not kicking out after the key's released.
Take the starter out and clean/rebuild.
It's just a noise now, it could be serious if not taken care of.

thanks for reply. i put a new starter solenoid in today and started it up a few times with no noise. im taking it out sunday and will update the results .
