It has been reconditioned 12 mthds ago.

i have trouable starting the motor, I am sure it is not the starter but an electrical item is causing the problem outside the starter as listed above.

I have enough juice in the battery and the starter has been checked out as being fine.

Any ideas???????

Sounds like it may be a starter solenoid. Those are usually located before the starter. The large red wire from the starter should connect to the solenoid.

Omega....what ya' can do is jumper the two large posts on the solenoid. If the starter cranks, replace the solenoid.

Omega your problem could be the starter, may be bad. If you can take it apart and look inside. The lower part where the brushes are could be either clunky or damage. The same thing happened to me. I took it to a shop and got it fixed for 55 bucks. good luck. :p

If the starter checks out fine...check your battery connections..on the battery and on the engine.

TMD

But clean and tighten all the battery connections first -- bad connection can cause the symptoms. Use sandpaper to brighten all of the wire ends, and work back from the fully charged battery to the solenoid and the starter. If that fails, bypass the solenoid as was described earlier. If the starter still fails to operate, you are due for a rebuild.

Thankyou all;

I have done what has been advised and eventually identified it to be the solenoid which I have now replaced.

The motor now starts first time every time (for the being).

Thanks for the advice and common sense approach.

Cheers
Omega

Thanks to:

Bill H
Captain
Member # 20007

OutboardJim
Tackle Shop Admiral

Member # 18214

bouner
Captain
Member # 29995

The Marine Doctor
Captain
Member # 29197

oldboat1
Captain
Member # 7858 :) :)
