I recently purchased a Glasstream 172 Cutlass with a 140HP Mercruiser Alpha 1. The 5th or 6th time I took it out, the engine wasn't turning over and when it did turn over it only stayed on for a few seconds. One of the battery leads was completely corroded and replacing that gives full power. While I was back there I realized that the starter was not rigidly connected. It was swiveling about one bolt (the lower one) and the top one appears to missing (or broken off
?). What size is this bolt and if it is broken off is there a way I can rig the starter temporarily so I can use the boat for the last few weeks of summer and fix it for good over the winter?
I tried a 3/8" and couldn't get it to turn.
