I took the starter off my 1994 225 Johnny and she turned fine. She won't turn the engine over when bolted on (problem started after I fogged the engine). I replaced all the cables cleaned the posts, etc (the "star" engages the toothed wheel but only humms after that). Can a starter be worn to a point where it will turn over without a load, but not be good enough to turn the engine over? Is there any way to check how good it is? I'm thinking of removing the plugs to see if she will turn the engine over with less compression. I can turn the head by hand, so I know the engine is not seized up. The Johnny dealer will sell me a new starter for $300, but said I own it if the starter wasn't the problem. I want to be sure that the old one is bad before I lay out the $300. I'd appreciate any help you can give me with this decision.<br />Stalker
