starter problems

I have on old omc seadrive 1986. Only after the motor starts the starter continues to run. This occurs only when the motor starts.

You may want to post in the Merc OMC section instead of the prop sectin for this question.
It sounds like the starter is not aligned properly. What is the base motor? Ford or Chevy?
Chevy may need a shim, Ford, you have the wrong starter.
