starter q

i have a 89 merc 470 ( i know ) but anywayse i had it out yesterday and turned it off for a few and wenen i went to fire it up noting all that happend was the starter was just spinning and ant ingageing... so i would assume that the starter is shot but my question is that is there a diffrence between a marine starter and a auto starter kinda like the diffrence between marine and auto alternator any help please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely there is a difference. You want a marine starter.
